Copyright and takedowns

Version 2026-09-25

What this page is for

Authors build their own sites here and put their own words and pictures on them. If you believe something published on a site we host infringes a copyright you own, this is how to tell us, and this is what we will do about it.

Who to contact

Author Services LLC has designated the following agent to receive notices of claimed copyright infringement: Author Services LLC, Attn: Copyright Manager, DMCA / Copyright Agent, Author Services LLC · 6650 Rivers Ave, Ste 100, Charleston, South Carolina 29406 · Telephone: 866-302-4807 · Email: support@authorservices.com. Please use this address for copyright complaints only. Anything else reaches us faster through the contact form at /contact.

What a notice must contain

So that we can act on it, a notice needs: your signature, electronic or physical; the work you say has been infringed; where the offending material is, precisely enough that we can find it — a web address is best; how to reach you; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them.

What we do when one arrives

We remove or disable the material promptly, and we tell the author what was removed and why, with a copy of the notice. We do not decide who is right — that is not ours to judge, and the procedure below exists so that it does not have to be.

If you are the author and you think we are wrong

You may send a counter-notice. It needs: your signature; the material that was removed and where it was; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification; and your name, address and telephone number, together with your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district — or, if you are outside the United States, for any district in which we may be found — and your agreement to accept service from the person who complained. We pass it on, and unless they tell us they have gone to court, we may restore the material after 10 to 14 business days.

Repeat infringers

We close the accounts of authors who repeatedly infringe the copyright of others, and we take their sites down when we do. What counts as repeated is a judgement we make on the facts, but the policy is real and we apply it.

Saying something untrue here costs you

Claiming infringement you know is not there, or denying one you know is, carries liability under United States law for the damages it causes — including our costs and the other side's legal fees. Please be sure before you send either kind of notice.

This does not replace the agreement

Authors also agree to our hosting agreement, which says the same thing more briefly. Where the two differ on how a complaint is handled, this page is the fuller account.
